The first Halo 3 Map Editor has been release. Engineer v0.8 Beta:

Key Features:
IFP Based Tag Extraction/Injection
In Halo 3 reflexives are stored in "pools" of like reflexives, resulting in reflexives being spread throughout the .map files. This is fixed by using a ifp plugin file to extract the meta and all it reflexives to one file. Then on injection, will inject back to the proper locations within the map file.
Meta Editor
Using the meta editor you can make changes to the tags within halo 3's map files.

- Meta Editor does not display Bitmask or StringID's value types yet.
- No Sp or Shared maps yet all Mp maps should work I have only had 3 to test with.
- Resigning only fixes the checksum not whatever else is protecting the maps.
IFP FYI
- When editing IFP files all tag references should be set like this
Code:
<tag name="Unknown" offset="0" visible="True" />
<unused offset="4" size="8" />
<id name="Unknown" offset="12" visible="True" />
There is now an 8byte un-unsed block on data between the tag class and the ident.
- Tag extraction is based of IFP's so remember to make sure all your header and reflex sizes are correct otherwise your tags wont extract/inject properly
This the first step to modding halo 3. If a halo 3 map resigner comes out, we will be able to star making halo 3 mods instantly. Though, who knows when or if one will come out.

Halo 3 Has Been leaked

To say that Microsoft jealously guards its Halo franchise, much like a dragon does its pile of gold and arcane treasures, could be something of an understatement. Halo 3's launch is obviously important, and The 'Soft doesn't want it falling into eager hands early. In fact, MS was so adamant of this that it threatened suspensions of Xbox Live accounts to anybody caught playing the game before its launch next week.
However, following a report we ran earlier about Argos breaking the street date accidentally, it would be considered most unfair, almost fascist, for opportunistic gamers who were only showing the kind of initiative that builds multimillion dollar corporations to be punished for seizing the moment. As such, lucky-turned-unlucky-turned-relieved gamers need not worry, as Microsoft has now clarified the banhammer will only drop on Microsoft employees. Now get back to making everybody else jealous of you, you big lugs.
The rest of us can hit the jump for a full statement from Microsoft.
"We can confirm that Microsoft is not taking any action (such as banning Xbox Live accounts) against gamers who are playing Halo 3 before the official street date. Any rumours or speculation to the contrary are false."

However, this early release of halo 3 from certain game stores has protected an even smaller community. The firmware hackers. People who have pried into their 360 were able to download the game and play it on disc a full week early.
Bungie's match making server went up at 4:00pm monday afternoon giving 360 hackers a days head-start on the ranks.
